Safety Harbor’s Race For The Booty Triathlon & Duathlon

Expect delay…Safety Harbor Triathlon…Sunday, October 30th…that is what flashed over and over on the sign placed on Bayshore a few days ago. This Triathlon and Duathlon was the first annual hosted by Safety Harbor Spa, Team Psych and Hot For Tri, and proceeds went to Success 4 Kids & Families, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Breast Cancer.

I was really excited to actually be watching and not participating in this race. Sometimes, one needs to take a break to watch, cheer and support other peeps and appreciate the roll of being a spectator in order to renew the love of competition. For me, it’s rising to the challenge and testing myself to keep going even when I have nothing left. Competition can inspire, humble and nourish the soul. It’s life…it’s living…and when there is no motivation to go on, there is someone on the sidelines or a fellow competitor that will cheer us onward. And, crossing the finish line…well, that’s when my heart sings with joy.

Here is some wisdom from Sister Madonna Buder –the 81 year old Champion Triathlete, also known as, The Iron Nun, “If we want to do it, we can. The only failure is not to try, because putting forth the effort is success in itself”.

This is a pic of some friends of mine that rose to the challenge. Congratulations to all…good show.

The Good Life -Or- Life Is Good…

I had just finished a long run and needed a much deserved cool down,  and taking a long walk down by this marina would be the perfect recovery. When I reached the end, I sat on one of the park benches just to admire the reflection of the clouds on the water. A young couple, holding hands and leaning on the railing were discussing the sailboats. I overheard one of them say in a slighty depressing tone…”Aaahh, the good life.”  That’s what gave me the idea for the creation of this post.

When I think of “the good life,” I get the feeling of pushing forward with force until, one day, I will have earned enough…for fun, let’s call it brownie points…to have goodness in my life. Then, there is “life is good,”…which gives me another view; one that makes me feel that goodness in my life is present–if I choose for it to be. It is to know that whatever may be in my path…the good, the bad, the ugly…I will maintain my happiness and joy, which will give me strength to endure when life decides to challenge me.

So I ask…what do you choose?

Enjoy your life…for it is good.

Life’s A Garden, Dig It….

I have to take a moment to brag about my new project. Well, it’s not just mine…it’s a shared project with my friends, Trish and Lauren, and it’s part of the community garden in Safety Harbor, another component of why my village deserves this blog…all members work together to keep it…keepin on.

AND…the rewards we get?

We get fresh veggies, a great education from Mother Earth, an amazing workout and the experience of community. As Merriam-Webster’s defines it–community is a natural population of plants and animals the interact ecologically and live in one place. I think it’s what life is all about…getting along with each other, getting your hands dirty and getting together for a common purpose.

One other point I must metion…WHO REALLY NEEDS P90X WHEN YOU HAVE GARDENING!!!!!
Note: P90X…crazy, insane workout regime that claims to give you maximum results. It frightened me too much to even remove it from the box. I say, just get outside…

Happy October 1st to all.
