Mosaics…the art of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, stone or other materials…used to create a pattern or picture. This art is about four thousand years old, and with the use of vivid color, skill and artistry, it can create a message or picture that cannot be created any other way.
Mosaics…the tiles of life…another community project for the future Safety Harbor Art & Music Center, also known as, SHAMc.
Terrie and I were so thrilled to be invited to the Whimsy House to participate in creating three by five foot mosaic panels that will be used on the outside, as well as, the inside of the SHAMc. Neither of us had ever tried it before, but we wanted to be a part of this project. It was there that we learned about mosaics…AND…the SHAMc Collective. It’s a core group of artists working tirelessly to create these panels and perfecting their personal skills in mosaics–which is one of the many workshops they will be conducting when SHAMc opens its doors.
Anything and everything creative…that’s SHAMc!!!
Local artists, Todd and Kiaralinda, winners of a grant from the Pepsi Refresh Program, are working to see their dream come alive…a place to discover and develop all forms of the creative process, whether it be art, music, writing, spoken word, film. They’re making it happen with the support of the community and this core group…The SHAMc Collective…pictured here is Kiaralinda, Barbi, Heather, Laura, Terrie and Luanne. They are placing one “tile of life” at a time…telling you…us…the story of what art and music can do for a village.
