#WDoG…

#WDoGIt’s about giving without expectations of reciprocity.

It’s about an unemployed man deciding to give $10 to a different person every day for a year.

June 15th is “Worldwide Day of Giving” and we are so excited to share this story with everyone reading this post.

BTW …. thank you for reading!!!

So, here goes it …..

Reed Sandridge had lost his job at a nonprofit organization due to the economy. Instead of giving into fear, he set out on a year-long altruistic journey that began on December 15, 2009 with the concept to give away $10 to a complete stranger everyday.

In honor of his mother – who was always thinking of others before herself – Reed created the “Year of Giving” documenting every $10-a-day giveaway.  He didn’t just drop $10 (remember…. all while unemployed) but rather, gave them a gift that was priceless.  He listened to their story … asked what they would do with the money … proved to them that they mattered!  Everyday is documented on his blog which is listed below.

Want to play?????????

Here’s how.

It’s three activities to choose from … OR … choose all three.

1.  Give a stranger $10

2.  Volunteer

3.  Donate $10

Explanations:  from the “Worldwide Day of Giving” website ……

*Giving a stranger $10-  Find a complete stranger.  Approach them and tell them that you are participating in the Worldwide Day of Giving and would like to give them $10.  The only rules are that you may not know the person and you may not receive anything in return for the $10 (aside from the rush of goodness you will feel).

*Volunteer-  You can volunteer with any organization.  For those of you who are busy and can’t take off work, consider micro-volunteering on websites like http://www.sparked.com.  Many of the volunteer projects take 20-30 minutes.  You can volunteer on your lunch break.

*Donate-  Give $10 today to your favorite charity.  Don’t know who to give to?  You can donate through the Year of Giving website to help some of the 365 recipients Reed gave $10 to in 2010.

If you live in the village, we would like to give you 2 suggestions for donating on #WDoG.

*  Friends of the Safety Harbor Library

*  Safety Harbor Museum & Cultural Center

The secret to living is giving, ya’ll!!!

Get that crisp $10 bill out of your pocket and be ready to place it in someone’s hand on June 15th.   There’s someone out there that needs it.

NOTE:  Music video after the credits,  soooo … stay tuned!!!

  1. I love this Karen! I just shared on FB! I talked about how much I love you even though you are not on FB, every one of my friends needs to know how awesome you are.

Love you! 🙂 And Women’s World Cup Game is on at 8pm (which is like a big deal to me!) so if we can’t chat then what is your schedule like manana?

  2. Thank you for sharing Karen! The Year of Giving changed my life and introduced me to 365 new people in my community. I love celebrating every June 15th by going out and reliving that daily adventure of giving away $10 to a stranger and learning what they would do with it. Thanks for sharing the love!
