BK2HK 2016 … Shave OR a Haircut …

This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.

August. We know it’s hot. We know it’s humid. School is back in session, which means the morning commute is much more hectic.
August. It doesn’t sound like a very kind month, does it???

Well, IT is a kind month. And, here is where we explain ….. for the 4th year…. why it is so. Here are 3 examples of what this trait can accomplish.

First and foremost, it’s time to celebrate “Be Kind to Humankind Week”, also know as, bk2hk! Started in 1988 by Lorraine Jara from Toms River, New Jersey. This week was created to promote acts of kindness performed by peeps … to other peeps … all over the globe. It’s like one big kindness fest with a different theme each day, so take a look at the website, which will be listed below, and get that “kindness groove” moving on!!

ARE YOU READY????????? “Be Kind to Humankind Week” is August 25-31st, so we’re giving you advance notice to plan your kindness attacks!!!

Now, onto our second example ….. Saint Baldrick’s Foundation!!! Primarily fueled by volunteers, this not-for-profit organization is raising money to conquer childhood cancer. Their main fundraiser is their head-shaving events … they are actually called “the crazy head-shaving people” because they are crazy enough to think that this head shaving thing can raise enough money to help research and find cures for childhood cancer.

Their challenge ……. BRAVE THE SHAVE!!!!!!!!!

Are you willing to take the challenge???

Well ….. looks like we have a place for you!!!

Here is our third example ….. takin’ it local, ya’ll, because that’s what we do. The Chop Shop hosts a Saint Baldrick’s head shaving event every March for the last few years. Owner, Mike Platow, and his team of stylists set up shop on Main Street with clippers ready for anyone who is ready to “BRAVE THE SHAVE”, and to donate to Saint Baldrick’s. They are the “crazy head-shavers” who help to raise money for childhood cancer. We salute The Chop Shop and how they promote kindness by giving back.

This is Safety Harbor, Florida and this is our village…

O’Gosh stands for O’Gang of Safety Harbor, and this pic is from the Safety Harbor 4th of July parade.

WHO IS this gang…AND…What ARE they all about???

This is a volunteer club that was formed to provide assistance to local charities, as well as, fundraising for certain non-profit organizations. Low yearly dues and participation in–at least–one O’Gosh fundraiser a year are the requirements to be in the club. It’s all about…being passionate about the community and making a positive contribution.

New to the village???
What a great way to meet the neighbors, especially with fundraising events–such as–Chalk Fest or The Lucky Duck Race.

Don’t have a lot of free time???
Check the requirements written above…this club is not asking for alot of time.

What about that warm and fuzzy feeling that volunteering gives???
Aaahhh…warms the heart and turns the corners of the mouth up.

Since starting this blog, I have felt compelled to immerse myself into this village and to view and experience the amazing peeps that live here and how this community gels together. This community is gellin’…because of clubs like O’Gosh. AND…I am proud to say that I joined this club last year, and have had such wonderful time…in every event that I’ve participated in.

At the present time, our gellin’ club has about thirty members, but we would love to have more peeps…more caring villagers…helping the community. The website is listed below, and there you can get a downloadable application.

The influence of a beautiful helpful character is contagious, and may revolutionize a whole town.

O’GOSH…just gellin’…the community.

It Takes A Village…

Help them build the dream…

Todd and Kiaralinda want to infuse our community with more artistic expression. They had a vision of a place where people could get immerse in the creative process, whether it be art, spoken word, music…any medium that gets the imagination running amok. That’s what SHAMc– which stands for Safety Harbor Art & Music Center–is all about. They entered and won a $50,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Program along with a $55,000 anonymous donation to get this building started however, more is needed to to complete the future SHAMc.

So, this whimsical couple came up with a most brilliant idea to raise more money for this endevor. HELP “PICKET” THE SHAMc is the name…using the “F” word…FENCING–FUNDRAISING–FUN is the game.

Here’s how this works…purchase panels…put some paint clothes on and…EXPRESS YOURSELF!!! These panels will be used to enclose the construction site, and will be incorporated at the center once it is built. WHAT A GREAT TEAM BUILDING EXERCISE FOR BUSINESSES OR GROUPS!!! Really anyone would benefit from spending the afternoon painting with a purpose…leaving a small jesture of support for the arts and for the community.

My experience was a total blast, and it made me feel like a kid again. We gathered together…talked about a general idea, and then let our imaginations rule. After we completed our panels, we stepped back and were truly amazed by our original artwork, and if you pass by the community garden in the village you will see our creation. It’s our contribution to this future work of art–known as SHAMc.

Please visit the website listed below for upcoming “Picket” events, or just to find out how it took a village to bring this project to fruition.

AND…maybe some of my readers who live far, far away would be interested in purchasing some panels????????? Todd and Kiaralinda have artists on hand ready to take care of commissioned works. So, if delving into a gallon of paint does not seem like fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon, or there are no travel plans for visiting Safety Harbor…artists are available to create a vision for you.

Help build the dream!!!
