It’s “time” for everyone to celebrate Peace ….. just for one day. Who knows where we can go from there??? Thank you Dr. Mariana Delgado for allowing your daughter, Elise and her friends to participate in the #PeaceDayProject2015.

Now, the quote we use every year to end our project … May peace be with you always and in all ways …

If there is to be peace in the world,
There must be peace in the nations.
If there is to be peace in the nations,
There must be peace in the cities.
If there is to be peace in the cities,
There must be peace between neighbors.
If there is to be peace between neighbors,
There must be peace in the home.
If there is to be peace in the home,
There must be peace in the heart.
~Lao Tzu

The Sound of Music…

SH SSFThe village is alive with the sound of music.

Music. It feeds the soul like nothing else…it fuels us to express emotion, whether it be happiness, sadness, love, lost love, revenge…whatever. It’s pure passion–that’s what music is.

Okay, let’s talk some music, shall we???

Local artists, Kiaralinda and Todd Ramquist, have created the first annual Safety Harbor Singer Songwriter Festival and it is scheduled for Friday, April 4th through Sunday, April 6th. It’s 3 days and 30 acts loaded with musicians from all over the world. They’re gonna have great food…great craft beer…AND…great music. The festival is to benefit the Safety Harbor Art and Music Center, which is soon to open its doors.

Why not check out the website listed below and find out about all these fabulous artists invading the village, ready to share their beautiful notes with you.

Pictured — our friend, and local artist, Kumpa, doing some chalk art to remind the villagers and visitors to our lovely city, to buy your tickets in advance to receive the discount.

Please join us on this musical journey…the first annual Safety Harbor Singer Songwriter Festival.

Music acts like a magic key, to which the most tightly closed heart opens.

The Tiles of Life…

image-3 (1)Mosaics…the art of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, stone or other materials…used to create a pattern or picture. This art is about four thousand years old, and with the use of vivid color, skill and artistry, it can create a message or picture that cannot be created any other way.

Mosaics…the tiles of life…another community project for the future Safety Harbor Art & Music Center, also known as, SHAMc.

Terrie and I were so thrilled to be invited to the Whimsy House to participate in creating three by five foot mosaic panels that will be used on the outside, as well as, the inside of the SHAMc. Neither of us had ever tried it before, but we wanted to be a part of this project. It was there that we learned about mosaics…AND…the SHAMc Collective. It’s a core group of artists working tirelessly to create these panels and perfecting their personal skills in mosaics–which is one of the many workshops they will be conducting when SHAMc opens its doors.

Anything and everything creative…that’s SHAMc!!!

Local artists, Todd and Kiaralinda, winners of a grant from the Pepsi Refresh Program, are working to see their dream come alive…a place to discover and develop all forms of the creative process, whether it be art, music, writing, spoken word, film. They’re making it happen with the support of the community and this core group…The SHAMc Collective…pictured here is Kiaralinda, Barbi, Heather, Laura, Terrie and Luanne. They are placing one “tile of life” at a time…telling you…us…the story of what art and music can do for a village.

This is NOT Spinal Tap…

Do you remember the mockumentary, “This is Spinal Tap?” Rock band plans a tour…low ticket sales…concerts cancelled…tensions grow…band starts falling apart due to the lack of support. Well kids, that’s not what we have here.

This group pictured here are part of the Tampa Bay Musicians Co-op. Started back in March of 2011 by Regina AaMacha, a singer/songwriter who moved to the village two years ago, and saw an opportunity to create a place where musicians could gather together and support one another. A place where these peeps could learn and grow…helping them define themselves as musicians.

ARE YOU INTRIGUED?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I thought you would be…

Starting with the concept–the right music at the right place. Regina and other supporters work with venues to establish their needs, then musicians are chosen–of which there are over 100 members–that will supply the right fit. Central command, as it is commonly called by the co-op, is connected to the Fleur de Lis Cafe…Regina’s other passion…her cafe and specialty foods market. This space is used for rehearsing, meetings, workshops and teaching, and all musicians pay a low monthly fee to be a part of this enterprising association.

MUSIC…puts us in touch with our emotions. It makes us sing out loud, dance and sometimes cry…it’s a gift-

(Had to divert for a sec to get my message out there…after all, this is my blog…right?)

The co-op gets calls every week from other venues, for weddings, music lessons and mentoring…just putting ideas out there if any readers need some musical talent and not sure where to look. Just want to hear some music??? Try Wednesdays from 7-10pm with FREELOW’s JAM or Saturdays with Open Mic Nite. Thursdays the co-op features Legends & Lore…a songwriter workshop.
