The #PeaceDayProject2016 …

wp-1473380182901.jpg
We’re winding down our peace project. Hopefully, if you participated, you’ll find your pic in one of our collages.

This day was unanimously voted in by the United Nations back in 2001. In September of 2015, the UN set forth a plan to help further along the idea of a more peaceful society. They adopted a set of goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. It’s called “The 17 Sustainable Development Goals” and they consider these to be the building blocks to achieve peace in our world. They also have created “The Lazy Person’s Guide to Saving the World” which gives simple ideas that you can choose to adopt into your daily life to help make an impact. Check out their website which is listed below.

Again … the questions …..

Who will you make peace with?

What will you do for peace on Peace Day?

How about takin’ it to the streets!!! Organize a walk for peace. Bring together your friends, family and community to unite on Peace Day, 21st September. Want to be anti-social? Take your own personal stroll in support of peace and global unity.

Walk on …. in peace!!!

Happy Monday!!! We’re counting down to Peace Day, and by now, we hope you are picturing what it would be like to live in a peaceful world.

We’ve shared all four #PeaceDayProjects, so the next few days we will be posting more pics of our villagers from Safety Harbor, Florida. Our town is approximately five square miles, which means we’re ALL neighbors. See….. we’re lucky! We aren’t faced with conflict like other parts of the globe. That’s why we support and promote the peace movement … even if it’s just for a day.

In an earlier post, we said that many hands have touched our yellow peace poster to pose for peace, so it is with great gratitude for your help in celebrating Peace One Day.  Aaahhhh, you villagers are the best!!!   Enjoy Monday’s collage!!!

And now, let’s return to the questions.

Who will you make peace with?

What will you do for peace on Peace Day?

How about breaking bread with neighbors or strangers. Cook a meal, get take-out, have a picnic and do it in the name of peace on 21st September.

Cheers! And pass the peace, please!!

The #PeaceDayProject2016 …

Helloooo, and welcome back! The 2016 Peace Day festivities are underway, and we hope that you enjoying this project as much as we enjoyed creating it.

This project is about making a little change in the world and asking you all reading this to make a little change, as well. Peace is all about individual action so take some time and think about what your contribution can be. And, yes we have ideas for you in each post leading up to Peace Day.

2014 showed some impressive statistics with the Peace One Day Report which recorded over 1 billion people exposed to Peace Day messages and 10 million people behaving more peacefully on the day as a result of the movement.

Our throwback collage from 2014 was about how peace comes in all languages. It is with sincere appreciation to all the villagers that took the time to help us with expressing peace in their native tongue.

Now onto the questions …

Who will you make peace with?

What will you do for peace on Peace Day?

Here’s an idea for you!!! One Day One Goal uses the power of sport in observation of Peace Day, 21st September. Organize a soccer match or even a tournament dedicated to peace.

Not a soccer player??? Pick whatever sport you like.

Not the sporty type???

It’s okay, we have more ideas coming your way.,

Peace out, ya’ll!

The #PeaceDayProject2016 …

wp-1473206541314.jpg And Awaaay We Go!!! ( Thank you, Jackie Gleason for the great opening line!)

We’re counting down to Peace Day with some throwback pics from our past projects that were registered with the POD Organization.

But, first … we would like to give you some statistics .

For Peace Day 2013 a 68% increase in the number of those aware of the day was recorded. That’s 470 million peeps!!! And, of that number, around 4-8 million peeps behaved more peacefully in their own lives as a result of this initiative. Can you say AWESOMESAUCE!!!!

The year 2013 meant that we had to step it up a notch … which meant we had to have a plan. We decided to ask our city government to take part in our #PeaceDayProject, of which, they gladly accepted. Thank you to the City of Safety Harbor for being part of that 470 million.

Now…onto the questions from the last post…

Who will you make peace with??? (This is personal. Search your mind and see what arises.)

What will you do for peace on Peace Day? (We can help with this one.)

Let’s try some art!  Paint, sculpt, sketch or photograph … changing the world by expressing yourself for Peace on that day.

Note: No names will be listed on any of the pics, so please stay tuned all week to see if you made it onto a collage. Who knows, we may even have a couple of extra posts this week! Be on the lookout and peace be with you!

The #PeaceDayProject2016 …

Can you imagine living in a world free from conflict, war, hate crimes, bullying, domestic and gender-based violence???

It would be nice, wouldn’t it??? But, that’s not the case. The world seems full of terror and hate, which fill our lives with fear, anxiety, and turmoil.

It’s time for some hope…

That’s why we support International Peace Day, a day of global unity and intercultural cooperation. A day that measures the amount of ceasefire and nonviolence all over the globe, and is celebrated on 21st September.

Peace One Day was founded by Jeremy Gilley, an actor turned filmmaker, who became concerned about what was going on in the world. He decided to give the world some hope, and in 1999 launched the Peace One Day Organization, which was unanimously adopted by the United Nations in 2001.

Now it’s time to take it local!!!

We are celebrating our fifth year of promoting Peace Day with … of course … another week-long project.

Every year we register this project with the Peace One Day Organization to be a part of the measurement of peace and peaceful activities. We also pick a different theme for every #PeaceDayProject.

(Here’s where we tell you this year’s theme!!!)

Are you ready?????????

DRUMROLL PLEASE!!!!!!

We’re taking a walk down memory lane and saying thank you to all the residents that helped us promote peace throughout the last four years. A collage of pics every day of all you wonderful villagers from Safety Harbor, Florida that helped us promote peace will be published along with the theme chosen for that year.

By holding our little yellow peace poster, you also helped raise awareness for peace on a statistical level, as well.

WOOHOO!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

So, here we go kicking off Peace Day!  Follow us on our journey and see if you made it in the collage.

This pic is from 2012 and our theme was . . . . . well . . . . . there was really no theme at all, but that’s okay.  It’s about the path to peace on all levels.

Today, we have two questions for you:
Who will you make peace with?
What will you do for peace on Peace Day?

Don’t worry!!!!  We’ll  be listing some ideas to help you celebrate  this most important day.

Knock Knock. WHO’s There …..

dsc_8521.jpeg

Another day.  Another FUN holiday!!!!!!!!!

March 10th is …..

Wait for it …..

International Day of Awesomeness!!!!

And, their official tag line is:

“No one is perfect, but everyone can be awesome.”

The International Day of Awesomeness was created by Kevin Lawver at the suggestion of one of his interns.  As a joke Kevin posted it to Twitter.  Very soon after posting,  a feed of tweets flooded his timeline in support of a special day to perform and celebrate feats of awesomeness.

AND… why  March 10th???  Because it’s Chuck Norris’  birthday.  We hear he is pretty awesome or at least that’s what Wikipedia says.  You can decide for yourself, but we’re moving on to more awesomeness.

“Nobody’s perfect, but everyone can be awesome” is a reminder that we ALL have greatness inside.  Don’t settle for mediocrity!!!!!   Radiate that awesomeness out to the world, just like Chuck!!!

So, here is where we explain the title of this post and the pic.  With International Women’s Day celebrated this week, we would like to tell you about a  local charity support group by the name of WHO, Women Helping Others, in which the  wise owl “who” is watching over us,  is their logo.

Started in the fall of 2014, this group formed as a way of giving some of the women villagers a chance to connect while at the same time giving back to local charities that may need a little support financially.

Here’s the lowdown ….. a $20 tax-deductible donation is collected at the door for the designated charity (knock, knock) and everyone brings  either a dish or a bottle of wine to share ….. let’s call it  community and communion.  Local businesses donate raffle prizes and,  those raffle tickets sold raise the size of the donation.

Women Helping Others Mission:  In every community there are neighbors needing a helping hand.  WHO’s goal is to identify and support those in need of dignified giving.

The International Day of Awesomeness is a celebration that people are awesome everyday and their “feats of awesomeness” are rarely recognized.

Well, ladies … we recognize the good that you do and we thank you.

BTW … We will be sending this to the International Day of Awesomeness website to acknowledge your greatness!!!!  (Singing now…. Let’s Hear it for the Girls!)

This is Safety Harbor, Florida and this is our village…

The #PeaceDayProject2015 … Sunday …

wpid-picsart_1442712797532.jpg
It’s almost … Peace Day 2015!

Now ……
let’s fast forward to 2050. What do you think Peace Day will be like??? We’re not sure, but if we keep working for peace on all levels, we may be able to reach the largest ever recorded cessation of hostilities both domestically and internationally. It’s all about individual action and getting children involved.

With that said, we would like to share with you a non-profit organization that focuses on getting the “littles” involved in Peace Day. They were inspired by Peace One Day and their campaign to raise awareness on the 21st September. They are a non-profit enterprise, and all money raised will go directly back into the company. It’s about children and education ….. it’s about peace, and moving it forward into the future.

We refer to them as our friends in peace, but you’ll find them on Google, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as … Postcards For Peace. They are all about getting young people involved in the peace process by raising awareness for peace and hosting events like a design competition and the postcard exchange network. All the info will be on the web address listed below, as well as, an introductory video of what Postcards For Peace is all about. Please watch and be inspired!

It’s time for another pic in our kids and canines week. Here is the lovely angel, Zoey and her rescue, Gracie. Thank you to Safety Harbor residents, Gloria and Kevin Francis for letting them participate in our peace party.

Today, instead of a question, we would like to give you a thought that was given to us by our friends in peace ….. I BELIEVE I CAN CHANGE MY WORLD!!!!

Well, the weekend is upon us. We hope that you are thinking and acting more peacefully as we shift from work mode to weekend mode. For the sake of any newbies to the #PeaceDayProject2015, our theme this week is kids and canines!

This week-long project is about getting involved. What can you do to raise awareness for peace in the home? What can you do to stop animal cruelty? What can you do to support Peace One Day???

We have an idea!!!!!!!!

You can shop for peace!!!

It’s the weekend ….. it’s time for kicking back and doing a little retail therapy, don’t ya think??? The Peace One Day website will be listed below, so take a look and start hitting that “add to cart” icon. Fashion Designers Marc Jacobs, Dave Little, Stella McCartney and Toby Mott are all contributors with some really unique t-shirt designs that support the campaign.

And if you live around the village, please visits the businesses that agreed to be a part of our #PeaceDayProject2015. They didn’t do it for the advertising ….. they did it because they believe in this movement.

Pictured: Our crew of the day!!! Left to right we have Drew, Jake holding Hershey with Chloe keeping the family corralled together. Thank you Andy and Cammie Zodrow for allowing your family to participate in the #PeaceDayProject2015.

So, remember to love your littles ….. treat all animals with kindness ….. shop for peace ….. support your local businesses, because they want peace.

AND … the question of the day ….
Who will YOu make peace with on 21st September????

The #PeaceDayProject2015 … Thursday …

wpid-dsc_1321.jpeg

Happy Thursday to all. We’re here all week building peace one day at a time.

As you can see, the #PeaceDayProject2015 is all about kids and canines, but we would like to let you know of something Peace One Day is trying to create … AND … how you can help!!!

Peace One Day actually measures the amount of peaceful activities on the 21st September on all levels. We feel that everyone has a responsibility to institutionalizing this day, and no effort is too small. That’s why we have registered this project for the last 4 years.

Now, onto what you can do!!!

Let’s make millions more aware of Peace Day by contacting the world’s most powerful search engine and asking for their support in this cause.

YEP …. that would be Google …. and, YES …. we’re talking Google Doodle!!!

Email Google and ask them to dedicate their doodle on 21st September to peace.

Are you creative???

You can suggest your own Google Doodle!!! The address will be listed below.

Pictured: What a trio!!! Left to right we have Jaxson, Hope and Nikki, and oh…what fun it was to meet these jewels from the village. Thank you to their parents, Steve and Kelli Chickos, owners of The Dog House of Safety Harbor for letting them participate in our project.

We end with this question…..

Who will YOu make peace with on 21st September???

Our theme this year is …. kids and canines!!! Peace Day is not only about ceasefire between nations; it’s about peace on all levels. It’s about stopping the violence, torture, neglect and abandonment of our most beautiful treasures.

Pictured here, we have one of our little villagers, Ben with his bodyguard, Duke … our treasures!!! Thank you to their parents, Angel and Nate Johnson for your help in promoting the #PeaceDayProject2015!

wpid-dsc_1408.jpeg
Woohoo!!! The #PeaceDayProject2015 is underway!!!

We’re here all week celebrating peace at every level.

Peace in the heart…
Peace in the home..
Peace between neighbors…
Peace in the cities…
Peace in the nations…
Peace in the world…

This year we have chosen children and rescue animals as our theme. Both have pure essences and a unique quality that most of us forgot along the years ….. unconditional love. So why is there so much abuse of these innocent souls??? A question for you to ponder as this week plays out.

It’s the age of innocence … in dog years!!! Because, that’s how we roll!!!

We hope you enjoy seeing some of our little villagers, as well as, some of our canine villagers promoting peace!

Shifting Gears …..

Greg Bike Month (2)Hold on to your handlebars!!! We’re trailblazing into May and celebrating National Bike Month, giving us an opportunity to get into some active transportation, while helping to reduce our personal carbon footprint.

National Bike Month was founded by The League of American Bicyclists.
Their Mission:
To represent bicyclists in the movement to create safer roads, stronger communities and a bicycle-friendly America.

So, in honor of #BikeMonth, we would like to give you all a list of some interesting benefits of biking that you may not know.

* Cycling 3 hours per week can reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke by 50%.

* A bike is 30 times less expensive to buy and maintain than a car.

* You can put 15 bicycles in the same place that one car takes.

* Bicycling significantly reduces transportation emissions while also reducing traffic congestion and the need for petroleum.

How much more beneficial to health, wealth and our environment can bicycling be??? Well, there is so much more but (because we like to keep the word count low) we have to move onto … THE … C.H.A.L.L.E.N.G.E.

Put the keys down for just one day or just part of the day. Shift the “gears” in your mind from living on auto pilot to a conscious and deliberate action, choosing to pedal to your next destination. We assure you, you’ll have some “bike moments” like, kid-like excitement and the feeling of flying. By doing this you are helping reduce your carbon footprint, saving on fuel and being good to body …. all at the same time. IT’S FANTASTIC, don’t ya think!!!!!

AND ….. to all the villagers that live here and are reading this …. we are only 4.9 square miles. Why not hit the pavement with another type of tread. Loose the routine of hopping behind the wheel of your car and start hopping onto your bike. Every trip will be unique and interesting, with new discoveries and enchanting views.

Soooo …. OFF YOU GO!!!! AND …. remember your brain bucket!

Here we are again. The day after Peace Day. WHAT NOW…you ask???

It is our responsibility as human beings to keep this going. Do you agree???

You can join every movement…send money to every cause…wear clothing that supports some people and THEIR campaign.

OR……

Find something. That speaks to you and makes your heart sing.

That’s what we did.

Postcards for Peace made our heart sing in every way, and on all levels.

Their Mission:
Is to improve the well-being of those people, around the world, whose lives are affected by violence or prejudice, by promoting change and offering hope, support and compassion.

The #PeaceDayProject2014… Saturday

wpid-dsc_0369.jpeg
It’s Saturday…the day before Peace Day. Are you feeling peaceful???

Well are ya???

Well, any degree of peace that you feel is the way to a more peaceful planet. It all starts with you and your thoughts of what peace can bring– into your heart…your mind…your core…AND…Mother Earth.

We’re not kidding.

Now onto POD’S events.

Saturday…Peace Games…

Over a half a billion people around the globe play games for at least an hour a day. Peace One Day and lead partner, Playmob are promoting peace through virtual worlds. Using that “artificial intelligence” to change imput into a more peaceful environment. We likee…so do not AFR (away from keyboard) for very long.

Saturday…in the village.

He’s one of our favorite villagers. Here he is…drumroll please…Dino Kotopoulis asking in Greek.

Who will YOU make peace with???

Started his career in advertising in the 1950’s and worked on campaigns like Starkist “Charlie the Tuna” brand, for which he won a Clio award. He has also worked with Disney, Universal Studios and Hanna Barbera Cartoons. He is known for his humorous caricature drawings and sculptures in wood and metal, and now is working on illustrations for a book by the name of “Captain Tortuga and the Treasure of Sand Key” by David Kinne. wpid-dsc_0327.jpeg

The #PeaceDayProject2014 is underway. We are so excited to be taking part in Peace One Day’s campaign to measure peaceful activities all over the world.

The POD website has listed 7 categories of events that anyone can participate in, and we will be sharing those with you.

Monday…it’s all about INDIVIDUALS. Everyday YOU can make a difference–YOU can help to build a more peaceful world. No matter how small, everyday acts of kindness can help peace become a reality. You know what to do, don’t YOU? Set your intention to make peace your most active thought today.

AND…NOW…

Monday…in the village.

Let us introduce to you, local artist, Catherine Gueret Frym. She is sitting in front of one of her beautiful paintings and her question to you is…

Who will YOU make peace with…BUT… with a French twist!!!

The #PeaceDayProject2014…

POD...Sept 22 Karen
It’s that time again.

Third times a charm … so we hear.

21st September is International Peace Day and it is devoted to, not only, ceasefire between countries, but peace at every level.

Peace in the heart…
Peace in the home…
Peace  between neighbors…
Peace in the cities…
Peace in the nations…
Peace in the World…

It started with one man and one crazy idea. Founder and Filmmaker, Jeremy Gilley, started a journey 15 years ago to establish a day of ceasefire and non-violence on a fixed calendar day. It was unanimously adopted by the United Nations in 2001, and with the help of Ambassador for Peace One Day, Jude Law, it has grown into a day far from symbolism.

This day is not just to create awareness–of which it does with magnitude. This day calculates and measures the amount of ceasefire, non-violence, and people acting more peacefully on 21st September.

The goal: 3 billion people aware of Peace Day and acting more peacefully by 2016.

Okay. Here is where we tell you what we’re doing to celebrate this most important cause. Each day of the week, leading up to Peace Day, a different villager will be pictured with their words of peace, in their native language. Also, we will be sharing with you some of the events that Peace One Day is conducting to spread the word. We have also registered this project–for the third year–with the organization to assist in the measurement for peaceful activities across the globe.

We think everyone has a role to play, so here we are — Terrie and Karen — holding our peace poster. We created this poster 3 years to commemorate this special day, and we’ve been toting it around ever since in promotion of peace and rasing awareness within our community.

And, so it begins.

Who will YOU make peace with???

I realize peace one day is about peace and recognizing the cultural differences around the entire world……however
this project, for me, is about embracing the cultural diversity WITHIN one community, living together in peace. I may not be able to read these signs written in a different languages but I know love feels the same for each of us. AND (Love has no political boundaries.)

AND… of course… a new sign off for this week.

binvested in your community…binvested in your world…binvested in peace…

BK2HK 2014…

wpid-dsc_1961.jpegThe last week of August is one of our faves.

AND…why…you ask???

But, of course! It’s “Be Kind To Humankind” week. Last year we promoted this “kind” observance with a week-long project. This year, however, we will be publishing one post, and challenging you to create your own personal “bk2hk” week. We are asking you to get your kindhearted nature on. Support this cause by raising your awareness to kind acts that you can perform everyday — making you one super-duper “kind” villager.

So what exactly is “bk2hk” week???

It is a celebration of people and the kind acts they perform all over the globe. Started by Lorraine Jara from Toms River, New Jersey 26 years ago, and it is still going strong with the message that kindness can enrich our lives if we decide to think…speak…act kindly.

Okay … back to the challenge. Try to consciously act a bit kinder this week with the themes per the “bk2hk” website that are listed below.

YES. We are a bit late…better late than never, right???

Here’s the list. Good luck!
* Sacrifice Our Wants For Others Needs Sunday
* Motorist Consideration Monday
* Touch-A-Heart Tuesday
* Willing-To-Lend-A-Hand Wednesday
* Thoughtful Thursday
* Forgive Your Foe Friday
* Speak Kind Words Saturday

AND … why an animal in this pic???

Because kids, Dora is the one of the best examples of what “bk2hk” is all about. She is NEADS dog, which is a highly skilled assistance dog for people who are Deaf or have disabilities. Dora assists Mary Ann De Meo, Technical Services Librarian, in making her life run a little easier by being her ears in the world in which we exist.

Now that’s what we call KIND!

It’s what the WORLD needs now…it’s what we all need now.

Take the challenge and notice how your heart starts to sing, stress melts away and how your week flows like a lazy creek taking you downstream to the weekend…aaahhhh.
